Pakistani rapper SMK contributes to dhol player Sunny Jain’s album Bhangra Rangeela
Red Baraat, a band led by dhol player Sunny Jain, is marking its 15th year with the release of their album “Bhangra Rangeela” on April 25, reports India West. The album contains nine new songs and three previously released tracks, blending bhangra with jazz and rock influences.
The album features collaborations with Stewart Copeland from The Police, who contributed drums and a remix, as well as guitarist Delicate Steve and producer Karsh Kale. A remix of the single “Thums Up” by Kahani from Indo Warehouse was released on March 28.
According to India West, the title track “Bhangra Rangeela” was inspired by a mashup performed at a Muslim-Jewish wedding and includes contributions from Pakistani rapper SMK and the Bakshi Brothers, who are Sufi singers. The album also includes remixes by Nick Catchdubs and DJ Rekha.
Red Baraat is scheduled to tour 15 cities in the United States during April and May 2025, with performances at events such as Festival International de Louisiane and Spoleto Festival USA.
